Monero Wallet is free, open-source software that you run yourself. You control the wallet keys. It has no warranty and no password reset. Monero payments cannot be reversed. An optional referral link opens an independent service, not a wallet-operated exchange.

Scope

These terms cover Monero Wallet · Standalone version 2.4.0 and this project website. The project and its contributors are independent of the Monero Project. This publication covers referral and wallet-only builds, not the optional developer API mode. Effective date: 2026-10-17.

By using the software you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

License and no warranty

The software is released under the MIT license. Install from the Chrome Web Store.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

Neither availability nor freedom from bugs is guaranteed. The wallet has not been independently security-audited.

Your wallet, your responsibility

Keys are created, stored and used on your device. We cannot recover a lost password or seed, reverse transactions or move funds for you. Keep the 25-word recovery phrase offline, use a strong password, keep encrypted backups and protect your browser and operating system. Anyone with your recovery phrase can spend your funds.

Practice on stagenet and use small mainnet amounts first. Keep substantial savings in cold storage. Follow applicable laws and tax requirements.

Payments and wallet fees

Check every full address, network, amount and fee before confirming. Broadcast transactions cannot be cancelled by closing or locking the wallet. If the result is uncertain, check the transaction ID before attempting another payment.

The project does not charge for ordinary wallet storage, receiving or sending. Monero network fees still apply. External exchange rates and fees are separate and governed by the service and provider.

External exchange referral

When available, Exchange opens Trocador in a new tab only after disclosure and consent. The link includes a referral code and the developer may earn commission. It does not share wallet data automatically or provide an integrated quote or order service.

  • Independent service: quotes, fees, orders, status, support and provider selection are on the external site under its terms. We are not a party to your exchange and do not hold its deposit.
  • No fixed markup promise: the referral link does not configure a custom 3% charge. Review the actual external quote and all network and provider fees.
  • No provider-filter or KYC guarantee: the link does not enforce A/B filters. A provider can require verification, hold funds or refuse service. A refund, its amount and its timing are not guaranteed.
  • Manual checks: you supply addresses and amounts yourself. The wallet cannot verify external order ownership, payout/refund addresses, provider identity or expiry. Normal Send address checks and review are not external order validation.
  • Support: keep external order references and contact the service/provider. We cannot complete, cancel, speed up or reverse an exchange.
  • Mainnet only: do not use testnet or stagenet funds. You remain responsible for network selection on the external site, regional eligibility and applicable laws.

Never type a wallet recovery phrase or private key into an exchange website. If buying XMR, copy a receiving address yourself; if selling, manually verify the deposit and review the payment in Send.

Third parties and privacy

The catalog includes third-party nodes and the vendor/community-operated XMRtab Node. All are treated as untrusted. The always-on monitor contacts every bundled node across all three networks without opt-in, exposing IP addresses and timing even when you select your own node. A latest availability sample is not continuous uptime, honesty or wallet/network synchronization proof; browser sleep and alarm delays can make it stale.

Linked exchange websites are independent. We cannot guarantee nodes' or external providers' accuracy, availability, security, solvency, rates or conduct. Exchange providers can control deposited funds until they complete or refund an order.

The Privacy Policy explains local wallet storage, automatic monitoring, explicit wallet requests, external referral navigation and possible commission reporting.

Risk and liability

Nothing here is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. Cryptocurrencies can change in value. To the extent permitted by law, the project and contributors are not liable for losses arising from software bugs, compromised devices, lost keys, incorrect payments, third-party services, delays or failures. Mandatory rights and legal limits on exclusions still apply.

Changes and contact

Features and terms may change, and support or updates may end. Changes to these terms update their effective date. This version describes referral navigation rather than integrated API exchange functionality.
